Itinerary

DAY 1. SEVILLE AIRPORT – SEVILLE

Arrival at Seville airport and group welcome. Transfer to the hotel. Free time and accommodation in Seville

DAY 2. SEVILLE – ZAFRA – MÉRIDA

Breakfast and sightseeing tour with a local guide of the most interesting areas in Seville. We will visit the Cathedral (entrance included), one of the Gothic masterpieces in Spain, and built above the foundations of the main mosque, whose only remains are the Oran- ge Tree Courtyard and the Minaret of the Giralda (entrance included). Next, we will enter the Reales Alcázares (entrance included), the Monarchy’s residence, and a Mudejar Palace, which was built by the King Peter I «the Cruel». Free time for lunch by the customer and in the afternoon we will walk through the Santa Cruz Quarter, a labyrinth of narrow streets belonging to the ancient Jewish area. Walking along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, we will pass the Torre del Oro and the Real Maestranza de Caballería, a famous bullring. Departure to Mérida. On the way, we will briefly stop in Zafra to visit the famous Arcade and the Alcazar de los Duques de Feria; at present it is a Hotel-Parador where we will be able to admire the Renaissance patio attributed to Juan de Herrera. Continuation to Mérida and arrival at hotel. Check-in and Accommodation

DAY 3. MÉRIDA / TRUJILLO

Breakfast and a walking visit with a local guide to Mérida, founded by August in the year 25 BC: the majestic Roman Bridge over the Guadiana river is 792 meters long and has 60 arches, the late 1st century Temple of Diana and the Trajano Archway. Along this route we will also visit the Roman Theatre (entrance included), one of the best-preserved theatres in the world, the Amphitheatre and some ancient Palaces. Departure to Trujillo and lunch by the customer. In the afternoon we will visit the old town, founded by the Romans and fortified by the Arabs. We will admire the exquisite Plaza Mayor surrounded by different Palaces: the Casa de las Cadenas, the Torre del Alfiler, Mudejar style, and the Orellana Palace with its magnificent Plateresque courtyard. We will continue back to the hotel and Accommodation in Mérida

DAY 4. CÁCERES – PLASENCIA – HERVÁS – SALAMANCA

Breakfast and sightseeing tour of the medieval Cáceres, a walled city with a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styled Palaces. Their façades are simple and ochre, and only adorned with a family shield and carved cornices. We will start our tour at the Estrella Gateway and walk to Santa Maria Square where we will visit the Concatedral Santa Maria (entrance included) and its impressive altarpiece, made of cedar wood, and the sculpture of a black Christ from the 14th century. Next to it we find the Renaissance Episcopal Palace with a dressed stone facade and two medallions that represent the New and Old World. We will continue our visit with the Upper Golfines Palace, the occasional residence of the Catholic Kings; Church of San Francisco Javier; Casa de las Cigüenzas; Casa de las Veletas; Casa del Comendador de Alcuescar; the Lower Golfines Pala-ce and back to the Estrella Gateway. Departure to Plasencia. Lunch by the customer and visit of the old and New Cathedral and the magnificent Plaza Mayor. After leaving for Salamanca we will stop in Hervás for a walk through the well preserved Jewish Quarter, its «casas de entramado” and the 12th and 14th century streets. Transfer to the hotel in Sala- manca. Accommodation

DAY 5. SALAMANCA

Breakfast and a walk through the historic centre of Salamanca with a local guide, one of the most ornate cities in Spain. The cultural tour starts at the Plaza Mayor, in the heart of the city; we will continue along the Rua Mayor and stop at Casa de las Conchas, (House of Shells) a 15th century gothic building decorated with 300 Santiago Apostle shells. Afterwards, we will go to the Clerecía, a public Jesuit University College (entrance included) with a magnificent baroque patio; the Patio de las Escuelas Menores, surrounded by Plateresque styled buildings and the University itself, founded by Alfonso X the Wise in 1254, with a façade entirely covered by a magnificent decoration in relief. We will visit to the Old Cathedral (entrance included), where we will be able to observe elements of Romanesque and the pregothic styles and the New Cathedral, rich in renaissance and baroque decorations, some of them by José de Churriguera. We will finish the tour at the Monterrey Palace, a typical Spanish renaissance Palace. Lunch by the costumer. In the afternoon we will visit the San Esteban Church Convent with its Plateresque façade, and Las Dueñas Convent, built in the 15th century on a Mudejar Palace and with a magnificent cloister overlooking the Cathedral. DAY 6. SALAMANCA – ZAMORA – OURENSE

Breakfast. This morning we depart for Zamora. The city where we will find innumerable Romanesque buildings. Characteristical monuments such as the Roman Bridge, the church or the enchanting cathedral are impressing examples of this Romanesque style. Lunch by the customer and after a stay in this city we will continue to the province of Ourense, the only Galician province without coast, where we suggest a visit to the Cathedral and the famous Burgas fountain. DAY 7. OURENSE – CAÑON DE SIL – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

After a early breakfast in the hotel we will make our departure from the city of Ourense this morning. The capital of the same named province has a large tradition referring the Santiago Pilgrimage, which is evident in the cathedral’s small church. Furthermore the fountains As Burgas and the Roman Bridge are worth seeing. Lunch by the customer and after this stay in Ourense we will head for the San Estevo de Ribas de Sil monastery, from where travellers will have a wonderful view of the Sil River. Then finally we will continue to Santiago de Compostela, which is the yearning aim of many pilgrims. Overnight at the hotel in Santiago

DAY 8. SANTIAGO

Breakfast. This day starts with a guided tour through Santiago where we will see the famous Cathedral (entrance included) and the Gelmírez palace. Then the rest of the trip will be at your own leisure and travellers can enjoy the unique atmosphere of this historic city. Overnight at the hotel in Santiago

DAY 9. SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – SANTIAGO AIRPORT

This morning the coach will take the group to Santiago de Compostela airport. End of the tour and our services
